How CBD is Helping Veterans with PTSD

Cannabis continues to catch the medical community’s attention and governments are starting to deem it fit for recreational or medicinal use. In recent months we have an improved understanding of what the plant is and how it can promote the well-being of those who suffer from mental health illnesses.

CBD may just be the aid veterans and all those who experience PTSD, anxiety, insomnia and more. Angelique Moss delves into how CBD can works on a chemical level in her article for Healthcare In America, titled, “Cannabis could be the key to treating people with PTSD”

“Chemical compounds in the plant called cannabinoids have shown versatile therapeutic effects by stimulating the body’s endocannabinoid system. The main cannabinoids are CBD and THC, with both known for their medicinal benefits while only THC possesses psychoactive effects. Cannabis’s medicinal efficacy can be maximized by incorporating the various cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids that are naturally found in cannabis plants like indica and sativa.

This improved understanding has helped cannabis become more well endorsed as a source of treatment and relief from conditions like anxiety, insomnia, and pain. It has also shown effectiveness in helping people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.”

Dr. Emek Blair, founder of Fort Collins-based Puffin Hemp, also sees these benefits and it taking action. CLEO MIRZA, with Westword, interviewed him in this article which you can read  here. The article focused on his efforts he is pursuing in Fort Collins, Colorado.

“Providing veterans with access to hemp and CBD products was an influential argument on behalf of the plant’s legalization, and now one Colorado company is putting its money where its mouth is.

Dr. Emek Blair, aims to ultimately raise and donate $1 billion worth of company proceeds and hemp products to veterans. He estimates his company has given away $20,000 to $30,000 worth of hemp and CBD products since launching in 2015, but recent efforts have created lofty goals.

Veterans enrolled in Puffin’s new MVP appreciation program receive up to three months of free supplies of the company’s hemp-derived CBD oil, Blair explains, and then they pay as low as one-tenth the standard retail cost for Puffin products after that.”
